Karena ip man sendiri pasti tidak akan sembarangan dalam menunjukkan seni beladirinya. Beladiri tiongkok biasanya akan dileburkan dalam seni. Tetapi dalam kehidupan masyarakat, biasanya kemampuan beladiri tersebut hanya di gunakan dalam keadaan terdesak saja. Invasi jepang merupakan masalah politik pemerintah alias kalangan atas. Mungkin saja ip man juga menjadi pelatih para polisi atau militer china dimasalalu. Tetapi ip man tidak mungkin melakukan konfrontasi langsung dengan tentara jepang. Kenapa ? Jika kalian pernah nonton film jet lee yang melawan orang jepang, pasti kalian tahu. Untuk membunuh tidak perlu repot berkelahi. Cukup dengan senjata api, semua kelar. Ip man juga pasti tidak akan sembarangan dalam bertindak. Dia punya keluarga, anak, istri, dan saudara serta sahabat. Jadi sangat beresiko jika harus berkonfrontasi langsung dengan militer jepang. Terlebih wing chun adalah seni beladiri untuk jarak dekat. Dalam jarak yang jauh, senjata api lah tantangannya. Selain itu, jepang dikenal sangat kejam saat menginvasi daratan china. Jika ip man turut menyerang jepang dengan kemampuan beladirinya, maka bruce lee ga akan pernah bisa belajar teknik beladiri wing chun. Bruce lee sendiri pada akhirnya tewas karena di tembak. Sehebat apapun seseorang dalam beladiri, tetapi ia tetaplah manusia biasa. Saya memang sudah tahu jika film ip man itu merupakan skenario yang di lebih-lebihkan dan tidak sesuai dengan kenyataan. Yah, namanya juga film. Untuk menarik peminat penonton, maka dibuatlah sehebat, seheroik mungkin. Tetapi paling tidak dengan film tersebut orang akan mengenal wing chun dan tertarik untuk mengetahui dan mempelajarinya lebih dalam. Dulu saya sendiri pernah ingin belajar wing chun, hanya saja kata teman saya yang pernah berlatih taekwondo mengatakan, kalau wing chun itu biaya latihannya mahal. Hal yang jauh dari kenyataan dalam film ip man adalah: 1. Ip man vs petinju asal amerika. Amerika sendiri tidak pernah melakukan konfrontasi langsung dengan tiongkok dimasalalu. Di hongkong dan taiwan, hanya ada pasukan inggris. Itu pun inggris tidak pernah menurunkan petinjunya. Karena saat itu politik sedang bergejolak dan inggris harus menyiagakan pasukannya dari agresi militer jepang yang sudah masuk china, taiwan, dan indocina. 2. Ip man vs muaythai. Muaythai sendiri berasal dari thailand, dan thailand sendiri tidak ada hubungannya dengan china. Karena pada masa itu, politik thailand juga sedang bergejolak. Dimana thailand masih dalam kekuasaan jepang dan inggris. 3. Ip man vs mike tyson. Ini lebih aneh, karena baik ip man dan mike tyson sendiri berada di generasi yang berbeda. Selain itu, kehadiran mike tyson dalam film ip man sendiri merupakan pemuas dahaga penonton setelah menyaksikan ipman 2 dimana ipman yang diperankan donny yen harus melawan petinju asal amerika. Dalam pertarungan tersebut petinju asal barat tersebut harus knock out alias KO setelah ip man berhasil melumpuhkan otot-otot petinju tersebut. 4. Ip man vs jendral jepang. Weleh, kalau yang ini terlampau ekstreme legend. Hahaha. Jepang bukan kaleng-kaleng, tentaranya ga sembarangan. Jendral jepang juga terkenal sadis dan kejam jika berperang. Selain itu, jepang ga akan sembarangan dalam memilih pemimpin atau jendral. Selain pengalaman dalam bertempur, sang jendral juga sudah tentu memiliki kemampuan beladiri yang mumpuni. Hanya itu. tidak. Jika sang jendral terancam, maka nyawa ip man pun akan terancam oleh pasukan jepang. Bahkan meski ip man harus ke hongkong sekalipun. Selain itu, jepang sendiri nyatanya tidak pernah mengakui ada jendralnya yang pernah bertarung dengan master beladiri wing chun asal china. Bahkan jangankan wing chun, beladiri lainnya pun tidak. Sebab yang namanya perang pasti menggunakan senjata. 5. Ip man tertembak tapi masih hidup. Rasanya kalau yang ini sangat-sangat tidak masul akal. Karena jika tertembak di dada, sudah pasti tewas. Jikalau masih hidup, setidaknya ia tidak akan bisa melanjutkan kemampuan beladirinya lagi. Tembakkan didada bisa saja peluru mengenai jantung, paru-paru, atau organ lainnya. 6. Ip man bertarung dengan master beladiri lainnya dari berbagai aliran. Kenyataannya tidak demikian, karena pada masa perang dunia ke 2, apa lagi saat jepang invasi china, master beladiri paling hanya membantu tentara china atau pejuang china dalam melawan jepang. Selain itu, ada juga yang mengungsi. Tetapi bukan berarti mereka akan melawab ip man. Karena dimasa itu tali persaudaraan rakyat china terbilang baik untuk bertahan hidup.
